Georgetown University Department of Performing Arts Music Program Presents Trionfo per l’Assunzione della Santissima Vergine Composed by Nicolò Ceva Performed by Georgetown University students and Guest Artists Premiered Naples, Collegio dei Gesuiti (Jesuit College), 1705 Thursday December 3, 2009: 8 pm Location: Wolfington Hall (Jesuit Residence) Ticket Prices: FREE Running time: 2 hours, 30 minutes (with 1 intermission) This event is the culmination of the music seminar entitled Music Theory and Performance, which is an in-depth study of Baroque musical and artistic culture. The vocalists and continuo player are Georgetown University students who will be accompanied by local professionals. Special Notes: In Italian with English translations provided. The oratorio performed is by the Neapolitan composer Nicolò Ceva. Ceva was a priest and maestro di cappella at the Conservatory of the Gesù Cristo, one of the four renowned music school of Naples. He was also the maestro di cappella of a Marian confraternity, Congregazione dei Mercanti, which performed often at the Collegio dei Nobili, the principal Jesuit school in the city. This oratorio was written for the Mercanti sodality and performed at the Collegio. The composition was discovered in Naples in 2008. Parking: Street parking is available or patrons may park (for a fee) in the Leavey Center (entrance on Reservoir Road) or SWQ parking facilities (enter via Canal Road). There is Free on- campus parking on weekends. The music director of the ensemble is Mark Janello.
