Wednesday, November 4 at 6:10 p.m. GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY music program Choral Workshop with Dr. J. Reilly Lewis: Bach’s “Jesu, meine freude” As part of its preparations for the ensemble's fall concert, the Georgetown University Concert Choir welcomes Dr. J. Reilly Lewis to facilitate a workshop on J.S. Bach's motet “Jesu, meine freude.” This Bach work will be the cornerstone piece in the Concert Choir’s fall program, “Divine Image,” a compilation of great musical settings of texts representing God in various forms. Lewis is recognized internationally as an accomplished conductor and keyboard artist, as well as a leading specialist of Baroque music, particularly the music of J.S. Bach. He is the founder and music director of the Washington Bach Consort and is the music director of the Cathedral Choral Society. He earned his B.M. degree from Oberlin College and his M.S. and D.M.A. degrees from the Juilliard School. His former teachers include Nadia Boulanger, Anthony Newman, and Albert Fuller. The recipient of a Fulbright scholarship in 1969, Dr. Lewis pursued specialized study of the keyboard music of J.S. Bach in Germany. There will be scores of “Jesu, meine freude” available to borrow for this rehearsal. Dahlgren Chapel FREE |
