ODE, the Georgetown Economics Honor Society will present a lecture by Dr. Mark McClellan on 'The Economics and Politics of Health Care Reform.'
Dr. Mark McClellan is one of the country’s foremost authorities on health reform. He is both a doctor and economist by training, with an MD from the Division of Health Sciences and Technology of Harvard University–MIT, and a PhD in economics from MIT. He holds several senior positions at the Brookings Institution, and has a highly distinguished record in both public service and academic research. As an academic, he was an associate professor of economics and associate professor of medicine at Stanford University, where he directed Stanford’s Program on Health Outcomes Research. He has twice received the Kenneth J. Arrow Award for Outstanding Research in Health Economics. As a policymaker, he has served in both Republican and Democratic administrations. His past appointments include: administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration; member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers; and deputy assistant secretary of the Treasury for economic policy. He is conducting cutting-edge work relating to health reform, and will provide an invaluable perspective.
