The Advent Day of Recollection is an opportunity to step back from what has become the intense and hectic nature of December, with its end-of-the-semester demands and Christmas preparations, and to enter into the Advent season prayerfully and reflectively. The Advent Day of Reflection is taking place on a study day prior to final examination period.

Our presenter this year is Dr. Julia A. Lamm, Associate Professor in the Theology Department. Dr. Lamm teaches courses on the history of Christian thought, systematic theology, and Christian mysticism. She received her Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Chicago.

Schedule

The schedule will include three presentations, each followed by a period for silent reflection and prayer. While it is hoped that participants will be able to stay for the whole day, we recognize that some may be able to come only for part. After the second reflection and time for prayer, we shall have lunch together in Riggs Library (registration is requested). The day will close with a celebration of the Eucharist (optional).

10:00 AM First Reflection: 'Simplicity in Waiting and Longing'

I wait for you, O LORD;
I lift up my soul to my God.
Psalm 25

11:00 AM Second Reflection: 'Mary--the Extraordinary in the Ordinary'

Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken
to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.
Luke 1:45

Lunch in Riggs Library

1:00 PM Third Reflection: 'The Birth of the Word in the Soul'

In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us.
Luke 1:78

2:30 PM Mass (Optional)
