The Fifth Annual Distinguished Lecture in Critical Theory will be delivered this year by Jasbir Puar of Rutgers University. Professor of Women's and Gender Studies and also Geography, Jasbir Puar is an exciting young scholar who truly fulfills the Critical Theory Society's mission of fostering interdisciplinary dialogue here at Georgetown University. Her recent pathbreaking book Terrorist Assemblages: Homonationalism in Queer Times put questions of race, gender, and identity into conversation with the reinvigorated forces of securitization and nationalism that dominate contemporary America. Her talk, entitled 'A Queer Turn to Life: The Biopolitics of Homonationalism', will elucidate the key themes of her book and also update it in light of recent international events. Her lecture will touch on subjects that implicate the work of almost every discipline here at Georgetown and provide interesting context for the recent controversies over the 'Map of the Modern World' exam that get to the core of the identity of the SFS in particular.
