New! WORKSHOP: SURVIVING IN A CONFLICT ZONE: SAFETY, SITUATIONAL AWARENESS, AND WHAT TO ASK EMPLOYERS BEFORE YOU START (Event is February 22, 9:30 am to 12:00 pm)
Thinking of a job or internship in a conflict or post-conflict zone? If so, this workshop is a must…and it’s applicable whether you hope to work in the diplomatic, international institution, private sector, or development communities. In this session, you will 1) learn basic skills and techniques to better understand and mitigate risks in the operational environment and 2) know what questions to ask any prospective employer before taking a job in order to see if the employer offers adequate systems and protections. Professor Mark Lagon, International Relations Chair in the MSFS Program, will introduce the guest speaker: Michael O’Neill, Director for Global Safety and Security with Save the Children International. Earlier in his career, Mr. O’Neill served as Coordinator of Volunteer Safety and Overseas Security with the Peace Corps and in several security related positions with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. In these positions, he has been a leader in establishing and institutionalizing effective safety and security systems; formulating policies, standards and procedures in risk management; and conducting field security assessments.
This event takes place on Friday, February 22 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm in the Executive Conference Room, ICC 7th Floor. Space is limited, and an RSVP is required.
Registration is now open: http://survivingconflictzones.eventbrite.com/.
