On behalf of the MA in Language and Communication (MLC) within the Department of Linguistics, I am very pleased to invite you to another in the Fall 2009 Linguistics in the Workplace Series.
This panel, called Language and Healthcare Communications will be facilitated by our very own Heidi Hamilton and will feature panelists Sylvia Chou, (Lx dept alumna - Ph.D. in Socio ), a Cancer Prevention Fellow at the National Institutes of Health and Meaghan Onofrey (Lx Dept alumna - M.S. in Socio), the President of the research consultancy MBSVox, which focuses on dialogue between physicians and patients, patients and patients, physicians and physicians, and other healthcare interactions.

Panelists will share examples from their own work in the world of Healthcare Communications focusing on the interrelationships between language and a variety of health issues and contexts. They will highlight some of the different methodologies that are used, illuminate the research process from the very beginning stages of motivating a problem, through to uncovering the assumptions made by different disciplines and approaches, and finally, will share some 'success stories' in working with practitioners.
